LaserFire Free Space Optics In the Field

The pictures below show two active LaserFire® transceivers transmitting gigabit ethernet at 1 Gbps straight through the air over the span of 2.4km. LaserFireŽ links are able to send information from 1 to 10 Gbps, depending upon the modem being used.

These links provide a high density route for bandwidth along with being extremely secure and applicable, allowing for quick substitution for fiber bypassing digging restrictions and regulations, while also compensating for the time it takes to lay fiber optics.

One terminal can be installed in under 15 minutes with push-button acquisition.

Acquisition Sequence

The video below shows the real-time acquisition process of the LaserFire system using a GUI (Graphical User Interface) specifically designed for the LaserFireŽ system. This includes one transceiver quickly tracing and locking onto the power being received by using patented beam tracking algorithms; the other transceiver using the same process, along with a real-time graphical power reading.

Using this tracking algorithm, we are able to account for movement of the transceivers without using gimbals or steering mirrors, while continuing the transmission of information. These systems are able to trace a 15° to 30° field of view from one terminal to the next; as distance becomes larger between the terminals, the system is able to trace a wider distance because the field of view remains constant.
